Abstract: 22nd Caritas/Migrantes Report on Immigration to Italy
The 2012 Immigration Statistics Dossier has reinstated the central idea of immigrants as human beings. It is estimated that on the fi rst of January of this year there were over 5 million foreign citizens in Italy, half of whom were legally employed. Over three and a half million come from countries outside the European Union, and of these the largest communities include Moroccans, Albanians, Chinese and Ukrainians. Within this framework, integration concerns everybody: it cannot be addressed exclusively by specialists but rather must involve to Italian residents as well as immigrants.
