Abstract: Inner areas: a geopolitical interpretation
From an epistemological point of view, the study of inner areas reveals the convergence of economic and geographical disciplines. As in the case of insularity, geographical marginality tends to translate itself into economic marginality. By definition, marginal areas are far from central ones, and are often located on the borders separating neighbouring regions or countries. Hence, the chance to theorize a comparison between inner and border and/or transboundary regions.
